The Kiscell Museum is part of the larger Budapest Museum of History which displays its collections in two other venues: the Castle Museum and the Aquincum Museum.

The Kiscell Museum is divided in two departments, one dealing with history-related collections (which focus chiefly on the modern age), and the other being in charge with the Municipal Picture Gallery. Some of the most interesting permanent exhibitions refer to the Baroque sculpture hall and to the so-called Golden Lion Pharmacy exhibition, though the open-air sculpture park might also be deemed a highlight of the venue.
